Great news - more spam!

Between my two main accounts - I just got a little over 400 spam messages in the last 24 hours.

This is a distinct increase from the mere 250 or so I was getting each day about a month ago.

This would seem to be in accordance with the theory that there is an annual spam cycle, primarily driven by college students returning to school. Millions of semi-experienced computer users connected to super-fast internet connections is a recipe for worms that recruit computers into zombie networks.

I'm still not tracking this information in a particularly scientific fashion, but the difference is substantial enough to tell without putting things into a spreadsheet.

Why is this good news? Well, it's not really. At least it's not good news for you dear reader. I however, am the CEO of a company that makes a spam filter. If this year is like last year, sales for September itself will be modest, but October will really take off. Since most sales go through a 21-day trial period, actual sales always lag spam trends.

There's one other positive note. While my own personal copy of SpamButcher is chock-full of spam, my inbox isn't. It seems like we've managed to keep our junk mail blocker one step ahead of the spammers.
