Class C (/24) networks which apparently belong to MicrosoftThere are any number of reasons you might want to do something different with traffic that originates from Microsoft. For instance, if you're a small business - hoping to get some of Microsoft's business - you might want to redirect them to a specific page promoting certain aspects of the services you offer. You could alternately block their access if you're paranoid they might be updating your Wiki. From poking around the web - it looks like nearly all outgoing traffic from Microsoft comes from an array of outgoing IP addresses which reverse map to tide(number).microsoft.com. Tide70.microsoft.com, Tide116.microsoft.com and tide533.microsoft.com would be a few examples. The gotcha is that to detect this real-time requires doing a reverse-map lookup on all incoming traffic. This can be a major performance killer. However, I found a way around this. Doing a little research, a managed to collect a list of all the known "tide" servers and then reverse-mapped them. I then boiled this list down to a set of Class C networks (/24) that Microsoft would appear to own. Using this info, you could easily add code to a given webpage to display a special message ("Welcome Microsoft Employee!"), redirect to another webpage ("18 reasons why Microsoft should buy our company..."), or even block them ("Sorry, we don't allow updates to our Wiki from Microsoft owned networks..."). Class C (/24) networks which apparently belong to Microsoft:
