After frying $100+ in various speed controllers, motors and gearboxes (apparently my interpretation of spec sheets is a bit on the liberal side) - I finally have a working "test mule" for my next bot - "Double Bastard" (officially "Double B" as not to scar the children) SpamButcher Combat Robotics is funded by SpamButcher - a next generation spam email blocker. The next event is going to be April 12th or 13th at the Science Center - so I have to get things moving... The intent of this bot is to follow my first effort - Arrogant Bastard (see www.spambutcher.com/bots.html) except:
Be compliant with current safety rules This iteration is strictly to verify drivetrain functionality - basically all the parts are taped to a piece of lexan. The final version will look much different (not quite as much of an ugly bastard). It drives quite well - top speed is about 4 mph and very controllable.
The weapons system is not online - but the speed controller for the blade is wired in. Weight is about 9.5 oz - which gives me 6.5 oz for the weapons system and chassis (will probably use mostly carbon fiber to keep the weight down). If I have weight left over I'll add another cell to the battery pack for more power. I'm planning on using either a carbide (like the original bastard) or cobalt-steel blade. The planned motor will be pretty heavy-duty for an antweight - a Rocket 400. Arrogant B. used a MIG-280. Factoring in that I'm running at 6.0v as opposed to the original 4.8v - this should give me over 2x the punch of the original.
