SpamButcher - Behind the Cleaver

Many stoppers of mail spam were integrated into Outlook or Outlook Express. Others were stand-alone spam email protection applications that worked with a variety of email clients.

Direct integration with Outlook or Outlook Express offered some user interface advantages - but it presented several development issues. The largest being that Outlook and Outlook Express don't really share any common code base. I'd either have to develop a spam blocker for Outlook or an Outlook Express anti-spam application. Supporting both popular email clients would effectively require developing two applications.

In the end - I opted for a stand-alone POP3 email blocker. This way it could work as a eudora spam filter or spam blocker for any other POP3 client.

This also lets the user configure the application on one computer, but enjoy the spam blocking benefits of it when checking their account from a different system.
