Center for Democracy and Technology Report on Spam

A lengthy report from the Center for Democracy & Technology on spam and how to avoid it. Mainly focuses on how users end up getting on so many spam lists to begin with.

Initial findings include at email addresses posted to the web or usenet received the most spam. Also found that obfuscating (joe_nospam@joe.com) your mail address when including it online does work to reduce the amount of additional spam incurred.

Briefly discusses the virtues of anti-spam programs - but mainly focuses on server side anti-spam software as opposed to client-side spam email filters such as SpamButcher.

Registering domains under your email address used to make you largely susceptible to spam, however with increased privacy measures this appears to no longer be the case.
