Angry former employee attacks company website with spam

Human resource managers have always had to deal with potential attempts at revenge from terminated employees. In recent history revenge efforts have included electronic attacks. Cases where former employees attempt to delete data are not uncommon.

In this case, an upset teenager who was fired from his job took revenge on his former employer by slamming them with 5,000,000 mail messages.

He now may spend up to 6 months behind bars. This seems a little severe. Even that number of messages would likely only take a few days of effort to handle from a systems administration standpoint. Unfortunately picking out any real email messages from the same period of time would be difficult to impossible. It seems clear that at least some serious punishment is in order.

The teenager has indicated he will fight the charges.
