Spam-fighting industry consolidating

Symantec is in the process of purchasing several vendors of anti-spam software in an effort to grow market share. It is not clear if they intend to incorporate the other companies technologies, or just absorb their customer base. Symantec and many others have created a recurring revenue stream by charging customers for updates and patches to their products.

As time goes on the number of major players in the anti-spam industry appears to be going down, reducing the spam filtering choices available to consumers.

The anti-spam market itself however appears to be growing. The spam level appears to be fairly stable with only moderate growth.

At this point SpamButcher is dedicated to remaining an effective spam filter for individuals and small organizations. We will continue to not charge to updates to the product, or ongoing support.
