Stopping Mobile Spam

The BBC has launched regulations that require spammers to acknowledge users requests to be exempt from mobile spam.

This will likely be as effective as attempting to require that spammers honor unsubscribe requests - which is to say it won't help at all.

The most effective way to combat spam is with an advanced email spam filter such as SpamButcher.

Other efforts to tame spam from a legal stance have so far proven ineffective. The CAN-SPAM act has failed to measurably offer any spam control over its one year existence.

There is however some precedent for laws regulating phone communications better than email. Laws against junk faxes have largely worked. The United State's 'do not call' list has also proven largely successful.
