Here comes the election year spam!

While Kerry and Bush have yet to engage in spamming to promote their campaigns - many spammers are capitalizing on citizens interest in the political season.

Typically spammers will include something looking like a poll question in their mail "Who will win the presidential election?" or "Was the war with Iraq justified?"

The subsequent message however has little or anything to do with politics - it's commonly just another Viagra pitch. The inclusion of substantial legitimate content can make the messages more difficult for some email spam filter software to detect.

Sometimes spammers will try to bait potential customers by luring them into taking a survey. People often feel strongly about their political convictions and jump and the opportunity to share them. In all likelihood, the survey results are never compiled and certainly not shared with anyone who would matter.
