United Nations Discusses Spam

The United Nations recently met to evaluate possible solutions to the international spam problem.

They estimated 80% of all email was spam, and costs the global economy $25 million (billion?) each year.

Technical solutions, strong national laws and international cooperation were all presented as ways to fight spam. No strong consensus was reached on the best way to proceed.

Efforts made by governmental bodies have a poor track record tackling the spam problem. Highly publicized legislation passed in the U.S. appears to have failed to measurably curtail junk messages.

However, use of antispam software by both service providers and end-users has provided relief for many.
