It's the Summer of Spam

Recently issued tracking reports of spam indicate that porn spam has dominated unwanted email this summer.

The reports indicated that a few - about 200 - mega-spammers were responsible for the vast majority of junk email. Presumably, those relatively few individuals also make the majority of the ill-gotten profits. While sending unsolicited email isn't illegal, many common practices associated with it are. Most likely, these people have committed millions of infractions.

The report also indicated that the amount of adult oriented spam making it past filters has increased in recent months. Last summer saw similar increases in spam - so this trend may only be seasonal.

Now that Windows XP SP2 disables images in Outlook Express by default, at least users are less likely to see anything too explicit. As a side effect, users don't see images in many legitimate messages unless they specifically enable them.
