CAN-SPAM Flops, Now up to Businesses to Fight Spam

The CAN-SPAM act has failed to produce an easily measurable effect. The law itself doesn't really do anything to outlaw spam, and even its minimal regulations are being ignored by spammers.

The government's inability to remedy the spam problem leaves the issue up to individuals and companies to resolve the problem using spam software or other tactics.

On a technical front, the fight against spam is alive and well. Many new server and client based applications are using unique and powerful approaches towards solving the problem.

A few different large scale ways to address the problem have been proposed. Some of them may even be technically viable. Actually implementing such an anti-spam solution would depend on cooperation between industry leaders.
