More Spammers Following CAN-SPAM

According to a recent study by the spam email blocker company MX Logic, CAN-SPAM compliance is up. About 6% of all junk-email is now sent in accordance with the law enacted at the beginning of 2004.

However, the actual mount of spam has increased, not decreased in that time frame.

MX Logic also said that spam being sent via hacked "zombie" computers is up dramatically - at around 69%. This statistic is somewhat alarming as it indicates a large number of users have had their systems compromised by exploits or scumware.

It appears the recent round of legislation has done nothing to assist in blocking email spam. Tougher, better enforced laws may help the situation somewhat. One way or another - users ultimately have to address the issue themselves.
