Spam Increases as Spammers Grow Up

The nature of spam has changed as the spamming industry has "matured."

Increasingly spam is being used to push more "mainstream" products such as financial services, and pharmaceuticals in addition to spam mainstays such as scams and porn.

Spammers have also increasing used harsher and harsher tactics to slam out their messages in bulk while bypassing anti-spam filter systems. The worst messages are almost entirely undecipherable by either machine or user.

This trend is somewhat alarming as it suggests that spam is increasingly seen as a legitimate way to promote products and services.
