MS Buys Giant Software

Software mega-giant has purchased the not-so-giant creator of anti-scumware and anti-spam email software creator Giant.

Most press has been focused on Giant's anti-spyware software. There is no clear indication that MS intends to use any of the acquired technology to stop spam e-mail.

Microsoft has at various points introduced technology to block junk messages in its email clients - but it has never actively promoted them. Giant's spam blocker for Outlook has generally been well reviewed by the press.

In depth information on the purchase and Microsoft's exact intent is somewhat ambiguous. Many reports have mentioned MS intending to release a version of Giant's spyware fighting software under it's own brand in the near future.

Microsoft has been slow to acknowledge or provide solutions for spyware. Millions of computer systems have been rendered virtually useless by the onslaught of unwanted junkware.

The vast majority of spyware is distributed via flaws in the security model of Microsoft's software such as Windows XP or Internet Explorer.
