Spam Hits New High

According to a recent study by FrontBridge Technologies - unwanted messages now account for 82% of all email sent.

FrontBridge says its spam blocker technology blocked 2,500,000 spam emails during August. Only 600,000 messages were deemed not to be spam.

On one day the spam level rose to a peak of ninety percent - apparently caused by a series of back-to-school promotions and political spam.

The amount of spam being sent is in stark contrast to a year ago - when junk email accounted for "only" 57% of all messages sent.

According to FrontBridge, the level of spam has increase 16-fold since it started it's spam filtering services in the year 2000.

Several studies tracking the longer term trends in spam have indicated the rise in junk messages is slowing. A few have even suggested that the amount of spam has fallen slightly. Due to differences in definitions, it's difficult to track the number of unwanted messages sent in an objective fashion.
