Microsoft Thinks Sender ID Will Solve Spam

Microsoft is proposing at a the Email Service Provider Coalition that Sender ID technology should be the standardized way to fight spam.

Sender ID tries to verify that the sender of the email is correctly identified using a number of different systems. Microsoft's proposal is based around "Microsoft's Caller ID for Email" technology.

Sender ID utilizes the sender's IP address to attempt to verify it's origin is actually from where it claims. This technology may be useful in conjunction with other techniques of spam elimination. Reliably validating the sender simply based on their computer's location on the internet seems unlikely.
