Is email as a communications medium dead?

Mark Hall thinks that between spam, spam blocker software, viruses and trojans - email has become virtually impossible to use.

The convenience of email has lead many people to become dependant on it as their primary mode of communication. Recently a storm warning system in Florida was offered via email. Its messages were promptly filtered out by | anti-spam software running both on home computers and servers.

The filtering software isn't to blame here. Whoever envisioned using such an unreliable medium for a critical task was foolish. They may have put lives in jeopardy.

Without any clear solutions - the author suggests that we should start investigating other ways to communicate online.
