Why Involving the Government in Spam is a Bad Idea

Well reasoned and to the point. It should however be noted that the CAN-SPAM act itself doesn't even attempt to seriously address the spam problem - so it can't even remotely be expected to be effective at curbing spam.

As government has expanded its roll, many people have come to look to it as the primary solution to problems. Issues with healthcare, education and general welfare are frequently seen as being within the government's scope of responsibility. Many of these issues could be more effectively dealt with by individuals and businesses.

With so many people relying on email I predict spam will be largely curtailed at some point in the mid-term future. Private industry and organizations will most likely be the source of the spam protection solution as opposed to the government.
