Microsoft Wins $4 million in spam ruling

Microsoft won a nearly $4 million settlement against Danial Khoshnood for "cybersquatting" on domains and sending spam to try to get users to install a toolbar program on their desktop (aka malware).

Cybersquatting is the practice of registering domains in an attempt to sell them to third-party at a later date. It has been argued that this can sometimes constitute trademark infringement.

The exact behavior of the toolbar / malware is not discussed in the article. One has to wonder if Microsoft's time might be better spent improving Outlook's anti-spam functionality.
