New email may be downloaded by clicking "Send / Receive" button in Outlook. The envelope symbol appearing on the SpamButcher icon in your system tray indicates when you have new non-spam email.

Having automatic checking for email disabled greatly improves how effectively SpamButcher works to block spam mail.
