What will become of e-mail marketing now that the CAN SPAM Act is in effect? How can marketers do effective campaigns? The CAN SPAM Webcast series from DecisionCast will explore these issues each week, starting Tuesday, May 25. Register at: http://bittyurl.com/1u

Portland, OR (PRWEB) May 20 2004--On May 25, DecisionCast will launch its first in a series of weekly Webcasts and online discussions about the CAN SPAM Act. The series, which runs every Tuesday from 10 a.m. - Noon PST, will explore how marketers can do effective online campaigns in face of an increasingly charged political climate and society that is at odds with marketer's efforts to deliver their messages.

The Webcast series is free. To register for the CAN SPAM Webcast series, please go to: http://bittyurl.com/1u.

Using a round table discussion format, the Webcast series will be a conversation with speakers and attendees using a Webcast platform as the media anchor and RSS technology as the format for connecting a collection of social networking tools that will be provided in conjunction with the event.

DecisionCast uses a model it developed for RSS WinterFest, a two day Webcast that had more than 400 people attend and 1,000 participate in the Socialtext Eventspace environment. Since the Webcast, more than 9,500 people have participated in the Eventspace at http://www.socialtext.net/rss-winterfest.

Socialtext is providing an Eventspace for the CAN SPAM Webcast series. Marketing Sherpa is the media sponsor for the CAN SPAM Webcast series. Event sponsors include iUpload, emailLabs, NetHawk Interactive and Pheedo.

To add to the conversation, Alex Williams, president of DecisionCast, will at times "turn the seats around," and have attendees and speakers switch roles. With the seats turned, presenters will be the ones observing and asking questions while the attendees engage in a live, round table conversation.

"We're all about making discussions last longer," Williams said. "When it's fun and we hear different voices, the events are just better. Attendees will participate as contributors, speakers and writers using tools that will give them the ability to communicate in different voices. Our hope is that as they express themselves and read what people have to say, their imagination will be captured and they will unleash a storm of new ideas that will rocket the conversation forward."

Questions the Webcast series will cover, include:

* What aspects of the CAN SPAM ACT must a marketer know about?
* What is a legitimate marketer to do when each time they do a campaign there is a risk of being out of compliance with the CAN SPAM Act?
* Why are politicians exempt from the legislation?
* What are the top issues that marketers need to be aware of when doing their e-mail campaigns?
* How can Weblogs and RSS technology serve as an e-mail alternative for marketers?

Weblogs and RSS are becoming effective marketing tools for marketer. The Webcast series will take a close look at these technologies to show how marketers can use them in conjunction or as an alternative to their e-mail campaigns.

Speakers for the Webcast series will include:

Fran Maier, executive director, TRUSTe
Robin Hopper, CEO, iUpload
Doug Isenberg, founder, Gigalaw.com
Bill Flitter, chief marketing officer, Pheedo
Stephen Cohen, senior attorney, Federal Trade Commission
Helen Roberts, COO, Responsys
Loren McDonald, vice president of marketing, Responsys
Chris Pirillo, founder, LockerGnome
Ryan Buchanan, president, eROI
Scott Daillard, partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Dow, Lohnes & Albertson, PLLC

The CAN SPAM Webcast series will run through June. Starting in July, DecisionCast will continue the series through the rest of the year by focusing on issues related to online privacy.

DecisionCast will announce several new Webcast series in the coming weeks. The Webcasts will focus on issues related to RSS, Weblogs, the media, search and mobile technologies. Stating later this year, DecisionCast will choose some larger issues that focus on technology but in their context are having an effect on society, domestic and global economies.
