IRVINE, CA (PRWEB) May 14, 2004 -- Iophase Inc. has released a major upgrade of its popular hosted corporate spam and virus protection service. Since its initial deployment in January, Iophase AES has demonstrated at least 99 percent accuracy identifying spam and 100 percent effectiveness capturing known email worms and viruses.

"This upgrade to AES gives our users complete control over how their spam is handled," says Iophase CTO Eric Hendrickson. Users now can choose a combination of tagging, discarding or spam redirection. Web-based controls allow users to modify scanner sensitivity and message disposition options in real-time.

Iophase AES works by passing each incoming message through a series of validity tests, spoof detection routines and bayesian analytics. The result, according to Hendrickson, is an overall spam score which is then compared against user preferences to determine the status and destination of each message.

"We've found that many users prefer to recieve a tagged copy of questionable messages while outright rejecting the most obvious spam," he says. New controls in AES allow great flexibility in managing those settings.

Iophase CEO Owen Scott says the new features were developed to satisfy requests from AES customers. "We worked very closely with our customers to develop a functional set of tools that satisfy some very common requests," Scott says. The new AES Control Panel provides users with an easy-to-use interface while giving them great flexibility in message management.

Spam redirection allows users to send all of their spam to a single mailbox that can be checked periodically for accuracy, according to Scott. Additional new AES features include whitelisting capability. "We added a whitelisting capability but in reality we've never had a problem with false positives," Scott says. "AES always leans toward allowing questionable messages pass through and still maintains a 99 percent or better capture rate."

AES has seen tremendous growth since its initial release, according to Scott. "We feel that these improvements make Iophase one of the most valuable hosted spam protection services available."

"A lot of people thought the Can-Spam Act would reduce the amount of spam in their mailboxes," Scott says. "In reality, it shows no sign of slowing down. Our numbers go up each and every month."

Hendrickson believes the Can-Spam Act has had little effect on their operation. "The quantity of spam hasn't slowed a bit," he says. "The main difference now is that spam is being delivered from 'hijacked' computers and networks or from overseas," he says. Iophase helps businesses regain lost productivity by greatly limiting the amount of distracting messages their staff are exposed to.

In addition to spam capture, Iophase AES also employs highly-effective virus and worm detection. "We look for new virus definitions from several sources every few minutes and have the ability to write our own definitions in-house," Hendrickson says. "This gives us a decided advantage when it comes to quickly identifying and stomping new worms before they get anywhere."
