Merry Christmas (You've Got Spam!)

If you've been using email for more than a few years - you've probably noticed the trend too. Every year around the holidays there seems to be a flood of even more junk email than usual.

The reasons are the same as any other increase in commerce - people are buying stuff - so companies are advertising. Companies tend to choose the advertising that works and the evidence indicates that spamming does pay.

That's right - apparently there are a handful of people who actually buy stuff from spam. Since the cost of sending spam is measured in pennies per thousand messages, it only takes a few sales to make it worth while.

Popular rumor has it even Santa has been buying people those knock-off Rolex watches and Viagra from spam e-mail.
