Viruses, Pop-Ups, Spyware, What About Spam? Hello Microsoft?
Microsoft has recently taken strides against fighting pop-ups with it's update to Internet Explorer provides with Windows XP SP2.
It's taken a stab at spyware with it's recent Antispyware beta. I've downloaded it - and it seems to work pretty well.
They've released a bit of anti-virus code via Windows Update - and they apparently have something more substantial in the works.
All of the above are (so far) free ways to make the Windows computing experience more tolerable. Microsoft to some extent has enabled all these vices - and it's nice to see they're taking some action against them.
But what about spam? Microsoft so far does not offer free spam blocking software.
Microsoft has a several products designed to stop unwanted emails - but they are all commercial products.
The latest version of Exchange Server offers significant anti-spam functionality. Outlook 2003 also provides many ways to minimize unwanted messages.
Microsoft however has ignored its e-mail client included with Windows.
So far, Microsoft doesn't offer spam filter outlook express free.
