Netherlands Fines Spammers

Dutch law enforcement has issued fines for spam being sent from that country.

The Dutch state decided last May to ban unwanted messages of a commercial nature.

The largest fine so far has been about $58,000 (US) and was issued against an individual who engaged in four separate major spamming campaigns.

Another fine was against a printing company selling orders for Mein Kampf (by Hitler) - which is in and of itself illegal in the Netherlands.

Efforts to reduce spam via law have by and large been unsuccessful. For instance the CAN-SPAM antispam act in the United States does not appear to have actually reduced spam.
