Ohio Passes New Anti-Spam Law

Ohio just passed a new anti-spam law. Violators of the legislation could get up to 6 months in jail and fined $25,000 per incident.

The House of Representatives passed the law targeted at preventing spam on to Governor Bob Taft this Tuesday. The bill had already passed the Senate earlier.

According to sources, the governor is expected to sign the bill into law.

When made law, the bill fights spams by making email that is deceptive or misleading illegal. Like most other laws, it does not "ban spam" in general.

The CAN-SPAM act has so far proven a failure both from the standpoint that it's regulations are weak, and that spammers are ignoring what restrictions it does impose.

Legislation has thus far proven to be a poor solutions for spam e-mail. Maryland and Virginia have also passed similar bills targeting unwanted messages.
