Drug Spam Arrest

Christopher Smith was arrested upon returning to the United States from the Dominican Republic on charges that he sent approximately one billion email spam messages to AOL users.

Mr. Smith will be appearing in court shortly to answer the charges. The spammer responsible for sending the messages has become known as the "Rizler" spam king. The culprit is apparently responsible for running online pharmacies from out of the country. This practice is apparently against the law.

Earlier a judge placed a hold on Smith's financial accounts and made a judgment preventing Smith from marketing pharmaceuticals online. Being in violation of the order, the judge issued a warrant for his arrest.

Much of the spam that sneaks past spam filters is pharmaceutical related. It's promoters seem especially well versed in the art of obfuscating their messages to fool filtering systems.

The warrant targeted Smith's operation of the illegal pharmacy operation. It did not specifically mention his use of junk email.
