Europe the Top Spammer?

A new report from the email filter firm Commtouch indicates that Europe is now the worlds top source of spam. The report was based on data from their research center. They had evaluated millions of emails over the course of the prior month.

The report further details a rise in European spam over the course of the last half year. Western Europe has been especially troublesome. The amount of spam mail originating from the United States has held fairly level during the same period.

Specifically, European spam is up 94% over the same sample dates a year ago. Europe accounts for about 25% of spam globally. Japan and Korea combined are about 24% in total. Some spam busters even block all messages from Asia completely. The United States came in around 23%.

While no spam totals for China were mentioned, they apparently make up 68% of total spam hosting sites. Since China's networks are heavily regulated by the government, it's hard to determine the value of this statistic.
