Microsoft Sour about Kraut's Spamming

In the latest in a series of legal moves against spammers, Microsoft has sued a German individual they claim to be head of a gang of spam senders.

The Redmond-based software giant filed a legal complaint against the German based company. The company name has so far not been revealed. MS claimed that they were responsible for millions of messages involving gambling and adult content. Microsoft's email spam filter technology included in its client-side products is considered weak, and not heavily promoted.

The organization is apparently part of a larger gang of spammers. They have operatives located throughout the world including the United States. The operation specialized in reselling services to fellow bulk email senders. They even offered complete packages including email servers, email lists and internet connectivity.

Germany doesn't actually have any laws against sending junk email. Microsoft however, was able to sue them according to laws regulating competition. The exact details of this legal maneuver are not clear.

In recent months Microsoft has cooperated with several state-level governments within the United States to pursue financial compensation from spammers. Usually the cases involve their Hotmail service. Hotmail is both heavily targeted by spammers as a target, and frequently utilized as a service for sending junk email. The cost of blocking junk email likely runs into the millions for Microsoft on an annual basis.
