Windows Vista - Part 2

I did manage to sneak a few moments of day-job time away to try out SpamButcher on our Windows Vista test system.

Good news - all seems to work just fine.

The download and installation didn't seem to present any terribly concerning issues. I think it did prompt for one more confirmation before letting the setup program run, but it wasn't particularly alarming.

After installing, SpamButcher was allowed to filter email as normal. While Vista does install a built-in firewall by default, it seems to apply only for incoming connections. It didn't seem to come into play at all when SpamButcher attempted to connect to my mail server. The Windows Defender anti-spyware features didn't seem to set of any alarms either.

The only odd things were some minor visual anomalies with the way the application presented itself. I suspect most users would notice that something's a little funny, but not be overly concerned. SpamButcher has some minor built-in visual corrections for Windows XP vs Windows 2000 and 98. Adding the same thing for Vista shouldn't be problematic.

I did get a quick peak at Windows Mail. It may have a new name, it may even entirely be new code; but it certainly looks like Outlook Express 7.0 to me. It does have a "junk message" folder - and the associated options menu. I didn't have a chance to find out if it's capable of blocking a significant amount of spam though.
