SpamButcher

General Operation

Every few minutes SpamButcher will check for new messages in your inbox. If it finds any spam, it's moved to a holding area for your later examination.

SpamButcher normally runs as an icon on your taskbar.

When SpamButcher is busy checking your inbox for new spam, it will display a checkmark over its icon. If you attempt to check for new messages in your e-mail client during this time, it may have problems connecting to your server.

Dial-Up Users: When first connecting to the Internet, SpamButcher may take up to a minute or more to remove accumulated Spam from your inbox. Wait for the checkmark to disappear before attempting to check your e-mail.

Whenever a new non-spam e-mail is received a small envelope will be displayed.

SpamButcher can optionally send you scheduled reports of intercepted spam via e-mail. With supported e-mail clients, inadvertently filtered messages can be restored directly from the reports.

To restore SpamButcher to a window click its icon in the system tray.

Check Now
Clicking this button will cause SpamButcher to immediately check all accounts for new spam.

View Message
Selecting a message, and then clicking this button will open it in a preview window.

Recover Message
Selecting a message, and then clicking this button will cause it to be restored to the account it was originally intercepted from.

After the message has been restored, you will be given the option to add the sender to the "known senders list." This will ensure that future messages from them will not be filtered.

Delete Spam
Clicking this button will permanently delete the selected message(s).
To delete all messages, select all (Ctrl + A) and then choose 'Delete Spam.'

Configure
Click this button to open SpamButcher's configuration menu.

Search
Clicking 'Search' lets you search the intercepted messages for text you specify.

Closing SpamButcher
Clicking the "X" in SpamButcher's upper right hand corner will cause it to be minimized to the system tray. To actually close SpamButcher, click on its icon with the right mouse button and select 'Close'.
