If SpamButcher is catching less than 90% of your spam, it's probably not configured optimally.
-
If SpamButcher isn't catching any spam - your account information is likely incorrect. See the Account Configuration page for help.
- Disable automatic checking for new mail in Outlook. This can double the amount of spam SpamButcher catches.
Outlook XP / 2003
- Select the Tools menu, then choose Options
- Select the "Mail Setup" tab
- Click the "Send / Receive" button
- Uncheck the option "Schedule an automatic send/receive"

Outlook 98 / 2000
- Select the Tools menu, then choose Options
- Select the "Mail Delivery" tab
- Uncheck the option "Check for new messages every"
Outlook Express
- Select the Tools menu, then choose Options
- Uncheck the option "Check for new messages every"
If you prefer to leave automatic checking enabled, setting Outlook to only check for new mail every 30 minutes can also help SpamButcher's performance.
- Check for new messages in Outlook only when SpamButcher indicates you have new mail.
- Enable DNS Blacklist support (on the Configure / Filter Settings menu). Using DNS Blacklists will help SpamButcher catch more spam, but can rarely cause problems with performance and false positives.
- Increase the frequency which SpamButcher checks for new spam to 1 minute or less (this can be done from the Configure / Options menu)
- Dial-Up users should verify that SpamButcher is configured for use with a dial-up connection (this setting is on the Configure / Options menu).
- Download and install the latest version of SpamButcher. Updates to SpamButcher are always free.
- If you've defined any Known Good Senders - make sure they don't include any aliases for your own email address. This can cause any messages sent to that address to bypass the email filter.
